In our daily lives, there are numerous unconscious behaviors or habits that we often repeat.
Applying the principles of meditation—conscious observation of unconscious behaviors—to gratitude.
Simply put, shift your focus among the five senses – eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and body – and feel gratitude in your heart.
An example of a gratitude meditation is as follows:
I am looking at something. I am grateful for having my eyes to see. I appreciate the ability to see through my eyes.
I am listening to something. I am grateful for having my ears to hear. I appreciate the ability to hear through my ears.
I am smelling something. I am grateful for having my nose to smell. I appreciate the ability to smell through my nose.
I am tasting something. I am grateful for having my mouth to taste. I appreciate the ability to taste through my mouth.
I am feeling something through touch. I am grateful for having my body to sense touch. I appreciate the ability to feel through my body.
What we take for granted is, in fact, the most grateful thing for us. It is the unchanging truth amid all the changes.
