Meditation on Travelling

Travel can bring effects remarkably similar to those of meditation.

When we travel, we introduce changes to the repetitive routines of daily life.

This disruption allows us to become aware of unconscious behaviors—those automatic actions repeated habitually without a second thought.

Interestingly, traveling farther often brings us closer to rediscovering what’s near.

This parallels the introspective process of meditation.

By venturing outward or engaging in change, we reflect inward and gain new insights into ourselves.

To harness the benefits of travel in daily life, we can pause our habitual routines, slow down, and simply observe.

Even small shifts—choosing different routes, walking varied distances, or embarking on spontaneous short trips—can introduce moments of awareness and renewal.

The essence of travel, however, is not merely about changing physical locations or altering external scenery.

Instead, it lies in creating opportunities for internal transformation through these external changes.

Without mindful observation of our bodies and minds in the present moment, travel may lose much of its value.

While it can offer a refreshing break, the fundamental tendencies of our minds often persist, regardless of where our bodies are.

In this sense, diving into the depths of our inner selves through meditation in everyday life becomes the most profound journey we can undertake.

It’s not about how far we travel physically, but how deeply we explore our inner world.

Through this inward journey, meditation guides us toward the discovery of our true nature.
